Live, Laugh, Smoke Cigars!

“Oops” He did it again. We don’t know how he does it, but Mauricio Cordoba, General Manager of the exclusive Club Macanudo, out did himself once more on Tuesday, October 25, 2011. After his last event no one would imagine that he could top it but were we wrong! The evening began with a warm and welcoming greeting by Mr. Cordoba and his hand-picked, very attentive staff. Each guest received a bag filled with premium cigars along with matches, a cutter and a raffle ticket for the many gifts that were raffled off later that evening. The raffle gifts included boxes of General Cigars including: CAO Cigars, Macanudo Cigars, La Gloria Cubana Cigars, Club Macanudo Ashtrays, Club Macanudo Lighters, Club Macanudo desk-top humidors, Club Macanudo cigar carrying cases, bottles of premium liquor and much more. There were so many liquor station that we lost count, but we can tell you this much, they were all premium liquor including plenty of “XO.” In addition, there was an endless array of delicious hors d’oeuvres.

Mr. Cordoba, like always, went around and made sure he made everyone feel at home – and feel at home is what we all felt. Club Macanudo was packed to capacity. Mauricio, with his usual class and elegance, went on to thank everyone once more and spoke a little about the history and future events of Club Macanudo. He also took time to remember the founder of Club Macanudo, Mr. Edgar M. Cullman Sr., who passed in August, and honored him with a moment of silence.

Among the guests of the packed Club, there were a few celebrities, politicians, General Cigar Executives – even Nestor Miranda the owner of Miami Cigar, Guillermo Leon the owner of La Aurora Cigars and Rene Castaneda were there! The event was quite impressive, to quote Nestor Miranda, he said “ Oye, (listen) Mauricio has done such an amazing job with this place, just look around, mira (look), mire para alla (look around), it’s packed, que hombre mas incredible (what an incredible man)”.

There was such an amazing feeling that night, everyone was enjoying themselves, speaking to old and new friends alike, when out of the kitchen came a cake. It was Mauricio’s birthday, well the cat was out of the bag. The modest Mr. Cordoba turned red as this beautiful cake, adorned with a hand-made replica of his family crest, was brought out. With candles lit, the band played “Happy Birthday,” and the whole place joined in singing to Mauricio. He even belted out a few notes, which, if I may say so myself, was pretty impressive! Everyone lined up to wish him a Happy Birthday. What a nice atmosphere, it felt like a family reunion.
